13th May 2012 : Svartifoss, dust-storms and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon

Car-pooling again today, as we embarked on an epic 14-hour road trip. With our two drivers Ruth Le Gear and Felipe Meres, we travelled south from Reykjavik, along the coast to the Skaftafell National Park at the edge of the Vatnajokull glacier. Here we saw the Svartifoss waterfall, cascading through basalt columns before going further east to the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. There was a weather warning for gale force winds across Iceland, but I don't think any of us were expecting the dust-storms we encountered around Skeidararsandur, both on our way there and back.
